FAQ & Testimonials
Is Kiss Me Organics matcha from China or Japan?
All our matcha is grown and harvested in Japan.
As you probably noticed on Amazon, there appears to be conflicting information about the source of our tea. We started Kiss Me Organics in mid- 2011, which was right after the terrible earthquake and tsunami that created Japan’s nuclear disaster in March of that year. There was a lot of concern about radiation affecting products and we didn’t want to risk the health and safety of our customers. So at the time, we decided to source our matcha from China.
In October 2014, we started sourcing our matcha (both Culinary and Ceremonial) from a tea region recognized by the United Nations as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System in Shizuoka, Japan.
We continue to conduct annual tests to ensure our tea is completely safe to consume and meets the standards of the USDA.
How many servings are in my bag or tin of matcha?
Our bag of Culinary Grade Matcha is 113 grams. Recommended serving size is 1 teaspoon per day. If you have 1 teaspoon per day, your bag will last nearly 6 weeks.
- 1 tsp is about 2 grams
- There are approximately 113 grams in 4 ounces
- So about 56, 1 tsp servings
- 112 1/2 teaspoon servings
Our tin of Ceremonial Matcha is 28 grams. A Traditional Serving size of matcha is a 1/2 tsp or 1g, if you use a 1/2 teaspoon per day, your tin will last nearly a month.
- 1 tsp is about 2 grams
- There are approximately 28 grams in 1 oz.
- 14, 1 tsp servings
- 28, 1/2 tsp servings
How much caffeine is in matcha?
A traditional serving size of matcha is a 1/2 tsp or 1g.
1g Culinary Matcha = 19mg caffeine
1g Ceremonial Matcha = 30mg caffeine
The amount of caffeine in a cup of matcha is based on the amount of matcha added per serving, not the amount of water used. One traditional serving of matcha has less caffeine than most teas, some soft drinks (like Mountain Dew), and is about equivalent with brewed green tea. Even if you use 2 tsp of Culinary Matcha, you’re still getting less caffeine than the average drip coffee.

We sure are! You can find all our certifications here.
What is the best way to store my matcha for optimal freshness?
You can keep your matcha sealed in the bag or tin it came in, or store it in another airtight container. Our bags and tins were designed to keep your matcha fresh. To ensure maximum freshness store it in a cool, dark environment (like your refrigerator). If your matcha is unopened, you can also store it in the freezer.
How long will my Matcha last?
Matcha is a dried agricultural product with a very long shelf-life, as long as you keep it in its factory-sealed packaging. If the product package is sealed, it can last for years. A closed container of Kiss Me Organics Matcha Powder has a shelf-life of 3 years. For maximum freshness, we recommend consuming your matcha within 2 months from the time it’s opened, after that the nutritional potency begins to decline.
What is the difference between Culinary Matcha, Ceremonial Matcha, and Vita Matcha?
Culinary and Ceremonial refer to the “grade” of the matcha. Each grade is harvested for distinct purposes. Culinary grade is ideal for adding to smoothies, baking, or other recipes while Ceremonial grade is ideal for straight cups of tea.
Our Ceremonial Matcha is shade grown, which increases the chlorophyll (i.e. making it greener in color) and L-theanine (giving it a more savory taste). Because it’s grown with less light, it has a lower vitamin C and catechin (responsible for astringency) content. This gives it a smoother taste.
Our Culinary Matcha, is seasonally grown in the summer under full sunlight. Therefore it has a higher vitamin C and EGCg content.
Vita Matcha is our Culinary Grade Matcha with added natural vitamins from dried fruit, which delivers 10% of the USRDA of Vitamins A, B1, B6, C, D, E.
Are the health benefits of matcha reduced if I consume it with milk?
There is no reliable data that supports the claim that the health benefits of matcha are reduced when it’s consumed with milk. To the best of our knowledge, consuming matcha green tea with milk does not reduce any of the health benefits. But if you are concerned with effects of dairy on matcha, you can always use a milk alternative, such as soy, hemp, coconut, or almond milk.
Delicious Addition to Smoothies
After hearing about the health benefits of matcha tea I was excited to finally try it out. I added mine to a smoothie and was really impressed with the flavor and the great color it added. Plus, I knew I was getting loads of antioxidants as well, which made it even better! I am excited to use this matcha tea powder in other recipes as well, I can’t wait to experiment.
Great before workouts, totally worth it
I really enjoyed this product! I had never tried Matcha before and think it’s a great way to add a rich earthy flavor to almost anything. I loved the clean taste, and green tea lovers will automatically fall in love with it. I started adding it to my pre-workout smoothies and I noticed I felt more awake and energized after drinking it. I really liked that it was a calm energy, so I didn’t have the caffeine downward spiral that I sometimes get from coming down off such an energy rush.
I was surprised that only ½ a teaspoon was enough to keep me revved for about half the day, without the jitters or anxiety I sometimes feel when I have too much caffeine.
Kiss Me Organics is superior quality
This is my favorite brand of matcha. The taste is mild and it’s great for digestion. It energizes me without giving me any noticeable caffeine buzz or subsequent caffeine “crash.” Matcha helped break my 20-year coffee addiction and now I’m sprinkling matcha in pretty much everything.
